Problem Statement

No special application for NFT owners to display and socialize.

When I was using the popular applications for NFTs on the market such as opensea, foundation, and metamask. I found out that they are mainly for trading NFTs. Also, NFT owners are now mainly using Twitter and discord to communicate . We’ve noticed that there is no special application for NFT owners to display and socialize.

Design Opportunities

We assumed there might be a design opportunity for us to design a special platform that mainly focuses on the 4 aspects listed. As a result, we decided to research to figure out what kind of specialized application do NFT owners need.

Socialization with other owners

NFT owners need a special platform to meet other owners who they can share similar thoughts, exchange ideas.

Promote their NFT  collection

By displaying their collections, more potential buyers would notice their collections adn even purchase them

Build Web3.0 Identification

Through having a exclusive application, NFT owners is able to
build Web3.0 identification.

Display NFT collections

NFT owners can display their collections to various people by
posting their assets on this platform.

Project Goal

How might we design a specialized platform for NFT owners that enables them to socialize, promote their NFTs, build Web3.0 identities, and display their collections in a way that enhances engagement and interaction beyond traditional trading platforms?

Target User

NFT owners, creators, and collectors

The target users for this project are NFT owners, creators, and collectors who are looking for a dedicated platform to not only trade NFTs.

Interview

In order to get the research findings, we interviewd 10 NFT owners about 6 questions.

Affinity Mapping

We conducted interviews with seven NFT owners and, after organizing their responses using an affinity mapping technique, we identified key themes related to their goals, concerns, display preferences, and social interactions during their NFT-related activities.

Key User Needs

We conducted a summary of user needs based on the results of our affinity map grouping, identifying eight key needs: connecting with other owners, accessing verified news, social pass functionality, ranking lists, displaying NFT properties, attracting potential buyers, exhibiting collections, and group chat capabilities.

Design Solution

Next, we applied information architecture to further refine the eight primary user needs, which led to the development of the product's navigation system. The Feed feature leverages big data to help users discover relevant NFTs and connect with other users of interest. The Search function allows users to manually search for specific NFTs. Then it's  NFT-related communities, and finally user profiles. The navigation bar ensures an intuitive and streamlined navigation experience.

Wireframe

I was responsible for the design of the social and profile sections. Using the information architecture, I sketched the feed, search, and profile pages to visualize the layout. During this process, I realized the tab bar for the ranking list on the search page required too much effort for users to view key sections like hot topics, most wanted NFTs, and popular users. To improve usability, I moved the hot topics to the top and adjusted the tab layout to two lines, replacing ads with more relevant content. Additionally, I redesigned the display area to allocate more space for showcasing NFTs, enhancing the visual appeal.

Key Features

After completing the wireframe and sketches for the product, we identified necessary changes. Guided by the information architecture from our research, we successfully designed the navigation bar, ensuring each section followed a clear user flow. To better demonstrate the functionality, we presented four user stories, highlighting key features and their roles within the overall experience.

Reflection

Research-driven approach: Since Web3.0 and NFTs were unfamiliar topics, I based all design decisions on solid and comprehensive research.

User-driven insights: Conducting interviews with NFT owners provided valuable information that challenged my initial assumptions. Financial focus: I discovered that the majority of NFT owners are motivated by financial and investment opportunities rather than personal interest.
